| One of the stories
connected to the hotel are of a man called Henry Girdlestone who made a bet
with his peers about walking 1000 miles in 1000 hours, and managed to do so in
1844 at the age of 56. However, it would appear that he has found it hard to
stop, and the phantom footsteps reported in this building are just Henry still
walking. |

I was taken around the hotel starting in
the Pool table area where I found energy of some 2-metre width running across
from the fireplace across to the window. I felt this was coming from a tunnel
beneath us.
Also an energy between the two pillars by the bar area, and
a presence of a person there.
On the first floor landing I was aware of
a change of energy as I approach room number 5. We were allowed to enter this
room and I felt a presence of a male person there by the side window.
Later in the evening I sat by the bar and was aware of a lady in her
60's not very tall with grey hair pulled back in a bun, she was dressed in long
clothes going down to her ankles, she was holding a basket. She could have been
a cleaner but I felt she used to sell goods from her basket in the pub. I did
manage to have a communication with her and found out that she like to come in
and have a drink and use the toilet, which was to the left of the bar where she
sat. (I asked Michele if there was or used to be a toilet there and she
confirmed there was.) Also this lady died in 1878 and was knocked down and
killed outside by a horse and cart. Also the name of Dodds or Dobson may have a
connection.
I then sat in the cellar with others and became aware of a
man who was dressed like a monk. There was also a tunnel in the cellar that was
now sealed off which used to go directly to the abbey near by. This man was in
his thirties and I felt he came from Ireland and the year of 1535 and 1570 was
given to me. I was also aware that this man was murdered and was killed by a
knife. Whilst we were sitting their we all saw a small light, which stayed most
of the time we were there. We did try to see if it was caused by outside light
coming in, but it wasn't. We sat on two occasions and both times saw a light
moving, we also heard on two occasions barrels clang and a very loud thud.
On the landing when we sat I was aware a tall man who I felt was a
Quaker or a minister. I picked nothing else up there.
In room 5 we also
sat and I felt the presence of a man around fifty with a beard who had had
pains in his chest (possible heart attack) and was taken to hospital and later
died. Also he was a sales rep from Scunthorpe who had two children also he
smoked a pipe or cigs. Possible drove a blue Volvo car. Left his wallet behind.
The name of Phil or Phillips may have a link. The year was around the late
1980's early 1990's. |
